Other Carnivores

This group includes the raccoons, weasels, hyenas, mongooses and some other smaller carnivores that are not covered within the bear, canid and cat groups. It potentially includes 14 species of raccoons, 71 species of weasels, badgers and skunks, 35 species of civets, and 33 species of mongoose as well as some additional lesser known species. The group occupies all continents except for Antarctica. These are small to medium- sized carnivores (25 gm ?? 20 kg) with the exception of the hyenas which can weigh more than 80 kg., and they inhabit most habitats except the driest deserts. Except for the smallest species they are well detected with camera traps.
