There are more than 375 species of primates worldwide. Primates are found in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the Americas, Asia and Africa, and the vast majority are found in tropical rainforests. Because most primate species spend little time on the ground, with the exception of macaques, baboons, gorillas and chimpanzees, they are rarely photographed with camera traps and are therefore not well represented on Smithsonian WILD.
